After very heavy rain early in the week, wickets were in remarkably good condition. This, and that there were three outright wins in the Christchurch Suburban Cricket Association s senior competition, made last Saturday noteworthy. Upper Riccarton resumed its first innings at 128 for nine and lasted only two balls without scoring another run before being ail out. In its second innings, Sumner declared at 136 for eight after Tony McKendry showed the way with an unbeaten 59. For Upper Riccarton, Dave Kennedy toiled solidly with the ball for three for 43. Requiring 149 for an outright victory. Upper Riccarton finished short by 27 runs. The batting left much to he desired and lacked assertiveness. John Braid i Sumner) finished with four wickets for 38. Southern Districts gained its first outright win of the season at the expense of Meriva!e-Pa-panui. But Merivale-Papanui in its second innings produced one of its better performances and was able to declare at five down for 144. Bryce Nicholson had a good game with the bat and scored 43 while lan Martin remained unbeaten on 50. Leaving 139 runs for Southern Districts to chase in reasonable time led to an exciting finish, 13 runs being required with three overs remaining. Thanks to Roger Queree (55), Southern Districts achieved its goal amid cheers of jubilation. Bowling for Merivale-Papanui, Jim Haines produced his best bowling of the season to claim six wickets at a cost of 34 runs. Harewood, resuming in its second innings against Woolston W.M.C., showed a welcome return to form and reached 168 for five declared. Good sound batting from lan Ward (30 not out), Barry Panther )49), Reg Hughes (25) and Tony Te Amo i2l) ensured that Woolston W.M.C. would not be handed the match on a platter. For Woolston W.M.C. Dave Quested and Norm Sloan again got the results with the ball and finished with three for 30 and two for 44 respectively. Requiring 164 runs to win was not beyond Woolston W.M.C. but after the loss of early wickets the task became harder. After four rounds, the points in the senior grade are: Hoon 4
