Beef costly in Japan
NZPA-Reuter Osaka The price of beef in Japan is the highest in the world and five times higher than that in New York, according to an international survey of consumer prices released by a Japanese trading company. In Tokyo IOOg of roast cost 800 yen (5NZ3.34) compared with 160 yen (62c) in New York, said Sumitomo Corporation. Its survey in August,
covering main cities in 73 countries, found that the price of milk, charges for electricity and gas, apartment rentals, cinema admissions, and the cost of playing golf in Japan were all higher than their counterparts in other industrial countries. Relatively cheaper in Japan were the prices of shirts, shoes, newspapers, and public telephone and haircut charges.
