Benefits review sought
Cuts in health, social welfare, and education spending suggested by the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) have been criticised ty the Beneficiaries’ Union. The union said that more than 80 per cent of social welfare spending was on non means-tested benefits such as family benefit and national superannuation, which meant that a lot of the money went to those whose needs were not great. A review of the benefit structure to redirect money to those who needed it most should be done earlier than had been suggested by the Minister of Social Welfare (Mr Gair), the union said.
