Beer price queried by Mr Douglas
PA Wellington The Labour spokesman on consumer affairs, Mr R. O. Douglas believes the public is entitled to know why beer will cost almost three times as much as petrol. Price increases for beer and spirits due to apply from Monday should be postponed until there was a public inquiry into the matter, he said last evening. The increase means beer
will cost $1.15 a litre. A litre of petrol costs 39.5 c. “How does a product that is largely water and home-1 grown grain and within New Zealand price' control get to be so much dearer than a prdouct that is wholly imported and outside New Zealand control?” Mr Douglas asked.
