Laser shearing?
j NZPA Melbourne The Victorian Department of Agriculture will ask the Australian Wool Corporation to investigate a new method of shearing sheep with a laser beam. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr lan Smith) told the State Parliament that he would ask the A.W.C. to see whether the method could prove successful. Mr Smith was comment-
ing on reports last week that a Queensland designer has successfully developed a technique for shearing sheep by laser. A laser is a concentrated beam of high-energy light. Mr Smith said he believed the capital cost of setting up such a system in a shearing shed would be 5450.000.
