News media peace prize to N.Z. journalist
A journalist who started his career on “The Press” in 1975, Paul Ransley (above) has been awarded a main Australian news media peace prize.
Mr Ransley was awarded the $3500 Australian inaugural news media peace prize for a film which he made for Television Channel O in Melbourne highlighting the Asian refugee crisis. He shares the award with the “Canberra Times” for its coverage of the same topic. More than 80 supplementary prizes were made to radio, television, and newspaper journalists under the news media peace award scheme and were presented by the violinist, Yehudi Menuhin, in Sydney. Before joining Channel O in 1978, Mr Ransley, who comes from Gisborne, was a news reporter with TV2 in Wellington.
