Memorial fountain for Mangos family

Westport reporter A Memorial fountain tc mark the association of the Mangos family with the former goldmining

township of Lyell, in Upper Buller, will be

blessed at a ceremony at Lyell at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 11. The idea of a memorial to the family arose at a family reunion at Timaru a year ago. It has been organised by the Rev. Peter Conaghan, a descendant of the original Demetrius Mangos, who was one of the first boatmen at Lyell. The Mangos family was associated with Lyell throughout its history and members of the family yvere the last people tolive there. An invitation is being extended to all interested people to attend a Mass at Murchison on the Sunday morning, follow-ed by a dinner at the Hamden Hotel before the blseeing

of the fountain later in the day. Personal invitations have been extended to former residents and their descendants.
