Northern Cup horses to arrive tomorrow
B:
G. K. YULE
Six of the nine North Island horses engaged at the Metropolitan Trotting Club's Cup meeting will be flown to Christchurch tomorrow. The other three will be brought south by road and sea. Greg Robinson, Rondel, Dictatorship, Game Folly, Remarkable and Yankee Tai_ent are to be flown south, ■with Hybrow, Del’s Dream and Delightful Lady coming south in trailer-floats. Greg Robinson and Rondel are to complete their preparations for the New Zealand Cup with a race at the Auckland barrier trials today. Greg Robinson will be driven on Tuesday by his owner-trainer. Max Robinson. Reports that Peter Wolfenden was to be engaged were denied yesterday by Robinson. He had given thought to engaging Wolfenden. he said, but had decided to drive the horse himself. Greg Robinson was runner-up to Sole Command two years ago and was considered rather unlucky not to have won the Cup. Rondel will on Tuesday be
driven by his trainer, Peter Young. Denis Nyhan, who drove Del s Dream to a surprise win in an Inter-Dominion Consolation Race last March, will be behind Arthur Cross’s representative on Tuesday. Mike Stormont will drive one of the north’s brightest hopes. Delightful Lady, in the Cup. Stormont has trained and driven this high-ly-rated mare to five successive wins this season. A dyed-in-the-wool stayer, Delightful Lady won a 2200 m in New Zealand record time at her latest
start. She has drawn fairly wide at No. 8 at the barrier, but this is not concerning her trainer as she is considered to be one of the fastest beginners seen in the north for some time.
Game Folly and Yankee Talent will do battle with the south's best in the main races for trotters, their main missions being the $30,000 Dominion Handicap on Show Day.
Dictatorship. Remarkable and Hybrow are all down to race in events for three-year-olds, with the $30,000 New Zealand Derby Stakes on November 17 as their ■ major test on the trip.
