N.Z. soccer team thrashed by Dundee
NZPA-Reuter Dundee I New Zealand crashed to a 1-8 soccer defeat against the Scottish premier division side Dundee, in the last match of their British soccer tour yesterday. The Dundee forwards capitalised on the New Zealanders’ hesitancy in defence and Shirra, Sinclair and Pirie all struck twice in what proved little more than a training exercise.
In spite of its inferiority INew Zealand almost went ahead in the fifteenth minute, but Keith Nelson’s shot hit a post. Five minutes later Dundee scored through Murphy from Sinclair’s cross, then Schael-
der set up the second for
Shirra in the thirty-fifth minute.
In the fortieth minute. Murphy left the New Zealand defence stranded and his cross was chipped forward by MacLaren and headed home by Sinclair.
New Zealand fared worse after the interval. Within four minutes of the re-start, Pirie had scored twice.
i The sixth goal was the re- ; suit of a bad mistake by Malcolmson who left his goal- • keeper stranded when he sent . the ball to the feet of Shirra. Sinclair headed home a N Fletcher cross for goal No. 1 7 before Steve Sumner managed a token reply for New . Zealand. Three minutes from time McLaren completed the spree from a chance created ■ bv Caldwell and Pirie.
