Nelson out of fillies’ series
The Nelson Jockey Club i has withdrawn from the ' Broadlands Filly of the Year ! series this season, leaving i seven participating clubs. ! Organisers of the series; have invited non-participat- < ing clubs in the South Island '■ to apply for the vacancy, i and a decision about the replacement will be announced in December. Past winners of the series have been Orchidra, Polly Porter, and Tui’s Lass, ail top-flight gallopers. Each club hosting a race in the series receives $5OO. Total sponsorship amounts to $7OOO, including $2OOO to , the winner of the series. ( Geraldine staged the first F race in the present series on October 14. The winner was ’ Dan’s Joy. f The Southland Racing Club has the second race in the series on its programme on November 18. That race,
the $6OOO Ascot Park Stakes, will be followed by the; South Canterbury Jockey!' Club’s $BOOO Show Gate 1 , Stakes on December 30.
