President Park's death

Sir, — Our Prime Minister expresses shock and sympathy over the shooting of President Park of South Korea and the admiration of New Zealanders for the dramatic progress achieved by its people. But we hear two sorts of news from South Korea. One is of great material progress and the other of great oppression and stifling of freedoms. This is what Hitler did too — with differences of course. Is this what our Prime Minister applauds? The former is built on the latter and has meant great material gain for some at the expense of many. It is not my idea of progress and I wish to be dissociated from th.. admiration he expresses on behalf of New Zealanders. — Yours, etc..

G. C. SUGGATE. October 29, 1979.
