Minister jailed
[ NZPA-Reuter Port Moresby Papua New Guinea's National Planning Minister (Mr John Kaputin) was jailed yesterday for 10 weeks hard labour for dis- [ obeying a court order. The sentence imposed by a National Court judge, Mr Justice Smith, is seen as a serious embarrassment for the Somare Government as Mr Kaputin is the second Minister to be jailed within a month. A former Justice Minister, Mrs Nahau Rooney, was sentenced to eight months jail on September 11 after she had been found guilty on three charges of contempt of court. Mr Kaputin had pleaded not guilty to a charge of [ disobeying a court order by failing to produce an annual report and other documents of the New Guinea Development Cor- , poration within three I months. Mr Kaputin is chairman of the corporation. The court order was issued on March 30, last ' year, but the documents were not produced until May 11, this year. Mr Justice Smith said Mr Kaputin had failed in ; an extreme way to pay attention to his responsibilities under the court order. I
