Junior tennis on the move
Junior tennis in Canter-; bury continues to boom. Entries for the Canterbury Junior Lawn Tennis Association’s inter-club competitions, which begin on I Saturday, have reached a record number of 209 teams — which means that more than 800 young players will: be involved. The total entries represent an increase erf 22 teams on last season, and the figure’ includes II teams from the newly affiliated club. Avonhead. Mr Maurie Agar, the chairman of the junior body, said yesterday that the holding of Davis Cup ties in ■Canterbury last season and again this summer was undoubtedly a factor in the surge of interest in tennis.
