Melbourne entry for N.Z. Cup
The Victorian pacer, Freedom Day, is among the early entries for the $85,000 New Zealand Cup to be run at Addington Raceway on Tuesday, November 6. Trained at Wallan, near Melbourne, by a former Christchurch horseman, Kevin Murray, Freedom Day has fashioned a splendid record for consistency and is considered little below the best horses racing in Victoria. Murray has always claimed that the six-year-old son of Minuteman was the ideal type for Addington Raceway as he was a true stayer not completely suited by the small courses on which he had to race in Australia. Murray gave no indication on his nomination form of travel arrangements, but it is possible there will be a suitable flight about the end of the month. Earlier in the year it was intended to campaign Freedom Day in the InterDominion series at Addington Raceway, but the horse suffered a minor setback a few days before he was due to travel and the trip had to be cancelled.
