A home that you can afford
j In addition to the renoj vation and improvement of existing homes, "Yesterday’s Houses Tomorrow” specifically highlights the purchase of houses with the deliberate ! intention of renovation. Undoubtedly, this ap- ■ proach brings the prospect of obtaining a home of one’s own far closer especially in the case of young people. While it is often desirable, in fact necessary, to seek professional advice
and technical assistance in some aspects of home improvement, there is undoubtedly much scope for the home owner to “do his thing” and to be able to say in the words of a popular song, “I Did It My W’ay.” With this idea in mind, the exhibition includes such aspects as selection, valuation, finance and inspection before purchase. The Building Centre is grateful to the Christchurch City Council,
the Housing Corporation, Canterbury Savings Bank, the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, the Canterbury Master Builders Association, Real Estate Institute, Government Valuation Department and the Institute of Valuers and the M.E.D., to name but a few who have contributed to “Yesterday’s Houses Tomorrow.” In addition, of course, there is a wide range of trade displays showing products and techniques. Pick up your free souvenir guide to the products on display. It will help you to remember the materials and techniques you have seen. Remember that the Building Centre has all these products and services on display and its assistance is completely free.
