In Conway’s steps?

“He could be another ‘Red’ Conway,” said a University rugby club official yesterday of Adrian Muir, the livewire flanker who has been named as winner of the club’s DB Player of the Year award. The auburn-haired Muir attracted considerable interest through his energetic play for University B in this year’s senior competition, and was chosen for the Canterbury colts team.

The 20-year-old Muir was educated at St Kentigan’s College and played for the Auckland under-19 side in 197677. This was his first year in senior rugby. He will be presented with the award on Friday, when the club will also honour its latest All Black, Keiran Keane, and its half-back. Gary Barkle, who captained the New Zealand Juniors this year.
