Racing and trotting Mighty Wealthy to win at Paeroa

Special correspondent Auckland Mighty Wealthy promises to improve on a good last-start third when he runs in the Club Handicap, the first leg of the double at Paeroa today.

Unraced because of recurring ligament trouble for the remarkably long period of four years and a half Mighty Wealthy made a comeback in mid-July.

Both Kauere Lad and Sir Hermes are in solid form. Kauere Lad has won two out of his last four races and finished third in the other. Sir Hermes’s last four starts have yielded a first and three thirds.

in his last start at Ellerslie on August 15. Once again Cracker Prince will be ridden by the apprentice P. D. Svendsen, who is light enough to claim 3.5 kg of his allowable 4.5 kg and reduce the weight to 48kg. Question Me, second at Ellerslie and Tauranga in successive starts, should run well again. Blue Defence, all the way from Hawera, won five times last season and is above average.

In his fourth start at Matamata on August 11 he ran very fairly for eighth and in his next and latest one at Tauranga eight days ago he improved, as expected, and finished third.

Kauere Lad is up to 58.5 kg which he will notice because he is not big. On the other hand, Sir Hennes drops from 57.5 kg to 51.5 kg, having raced in intermediate company at Ellerslie last Saturday. Sun Song and Hoochy Couchy Henry are others worth plenty of consideration.

Mighty Wealthy looked very good at two and three years. He won the Ryder Stakes and ran third in the Wellington Guineas among many stake-earning efforts. Although eight, he may have plenty of good performances left in him providing he remains sound. Bob Vance has today’s tnount The Autridge family of Matamata could be very prominent in the finish.

Sun Song, after several disappointing efforts, has finished third in her last two starts. So has Hoochy Couchy Henry whose form right through the winter has been very good. Cracker Prince should give another good account of himself in the second leg, the Norwood Handicap.
