Oceania on outer

NZPA Montreal Oceania had only New Zealander Michael O’Rourke’s second in the javelin and Australian triple jumper lan Campbell’s third to show for three days’ competition against the world’s best athletes, in the second World Athletics Cup at Montreal. Oceania beat only Asia in men's competition. The United States won with seven victories and 119

points, seven ahead of the European team. It was a little better in the women's section, where Oceania came in sixth, 46 points ahead of Africa and Asia. East Germany won the women’s section with 105 points, eight ahead of Russia. O’Rourke's performance was even more meritorious considering a longstanding back injury had forced him to wear a belt support to cradle his stressed lumbar vertebrae.
