Canoeists delayed on island trip
PA Invercargill Tides severely hampered the progress of the canoeists Paul Caffyn, of Greymouth, and Max Reynolds of Nelson, on the fifth day of their circumnavigation of Stewart Island yesterday. They set out early yesterday morning in an attempt to get to South West Cape. However, the tides were too strong arid they
had to return to Port Nicolson. They eventually reached Flourcast Bay at 5 p.m. They will attempt to reach South Cape on the flood tide this morning. Local fishermen have been making sure they have been well supplied with fresh fish. Their support party is at Yankee River, and they expect to reach Christmas village today.
