New slip fears
PA Dunedin Heavy rain in Abbotsford on Saturday night and yesterday morning caused concern to newly-returned residents of the suburb which suffered a slip sev* eral weeks ago. Floodwater blocked parts of Neill Street at the foot of the suburb, leaving a greasy film of silt over at least two sections and much of the road. However, the Mayor of Green Island (Mr V. J. Crimp) discounted fears that the heavy rainfall might trigger more slip movement. Mr Crimp said he received a call from a ratepayer concerned about flooding in the Bumside area of the borough, and after checking that, had had a look at Abbotsford. Because of the slip, normal stormwater drains were not functioning in some places.
