Wall Street last week
The Wall Street sharemarket was easier last week; the Dow Jones industrial average closed on Friday at 880.20 for a decline of 3.84 points on the week. Trading was active, with daily volumes at fairly high levels. Market. observers expressed concern that U.S. interest rates were rising too high. However, surging oil issues counteracted the decline somewhat. Later news of large increases in consumer prices and in the
U.S. money supply kept the market on the defensive. Closing prices on Friday of a selection of shares were: A.8.C.. 463; Alcan. 384; Alcoa, 551; Amsx, 39; Amarada Hess, 43; Am. Express. 354: Am.
