...and the show goes on

NZPA-Reuter New York

A performance of Swan Lake by the Bolshoi Ballet company at the State Theatre at Lincoln Centre, New York, was delayed 20 minutes yesterday because of complications arising from the diplomatic incident over Lyudmilla Vlasova. The performance was to have begun at 2 p.m. The audience was told that the curtain would be held until Yuri Grigorovitch. the artistic director and the company’s principal choreographer, returned from Kennedy International Airport, where he had met Miss Vlasova. The statement, read over the loudspeaker system, said that it was customary for Grigorovitch to attend all perfomances when the company toured abroad. About 15 minutes after the first announcement, a second was made, saying the performance would begin immediately. Mr Thomas Kelley, the house manager, said later it did not appear that Mr Grigorovitch had returned.
