Cricket money “record’
NZPA Melbourne Australia’s test cricketers are expected to play for record prize money in their six test matches against England and the West Indies this summer. The Australian Cricket Board is expected to approve prize money of $114,000 for the matches, three against England and three against the West Indies. It is believed that the players have rejected a board proposal of $60,000 prize money for the test series: instead, a new schedule of $19,000 for each test is believed to have been determined. Of this, $12,000 would go to the winning team,, $6OOO to the loser, and $lOOO to the player of the match. The board allocated $54,000 prize money for the six-test series between Australia and England. The winning side received $5OOO and the losing side $2500. If the increase is granted by the A.C.B. at its meeting at Perth in September, it will represent an increase of 111 per cent for incentive money. Total prize money for the Australian season — tests, o n e-d a y internationals, Sheffield Shield, and McDonald’s Cup — is expected to reach $313,000.
