Teachers plan action
PA Wellington Teachers aim to force the public to take notice of secondary-school staffing problems next term. Options whieh the Post Primary Teachers’ Association conference in Wellington may adopt include a ban on clerical duties and taking time off for supervising classes for absent teachers. A sub-committee was set up to thrash out a plan
of action last night and to report back to the Conference as soon as possible
today, A staffing spokesman, Mr P. H. Capper, told delegates that action on staffing now had to be political. The public had to see the cracks in the secondaryschool system. Schools had functioned with a semblance of normality only because of teachers’ good will.
But the conference was not ready to adopt Mr Capper’s plan of action,
It agreed, however, to set up a sub-committee to plan action for the third term this year and for 1980. Mr N. Price (Waikato), who moved the committee motion, said later that the revised plan would probably be similar to Mr Cappers’ but would include a wider range of actions.
