Grant to S.O.S.
Sir, — If Dr Peter Chambers (August 16) really believes S.O.S. is providing a' “service” for woman in sending them to Australia to have their unborn children' aborted he i.;- surely dreaming. It does not. take too much thought, to realise that tb.j so-called “counselling: service” they provide is heavily weighted against those who wish to continue their pregnancy. Does their counselling, for example, include explaining . to the woman that the foetus is actually a human being; and .that there are indeed a number of very serious complications which can occur after an abortion? As Dr Chambers must be well aware, it is far more likely that 1000 of those 1096 women he mentioned would have decided to continue their pregnancies, if they had been told the real facts in their “counselling.” Is withholding the facts really a “service” to women? Most women would say not. — Yours, etc., JUNE SYMONS. August 16, 1979.
