Would-be robber runs off

An elderly Christchurch! woman told a would-be masked robber who pulled a knife on her in the street last evening to “run away,” and he did. The masked youth, aged! about 16, approached the woman at the intersection of Selwyn Street and Roker Street in Sydenham shortly after 9 a.m. and demanded, money from her. She refused, and told him to go away. He ran off and was last seen running down Brougham Street towards the city. The woman was not harmed in the incident. The police describe the would-be robber as a male Maori, with black shoulderlength hair, a thin face, and wearing a blue and red diagonally-striped jacket, light blue jeans and green and white socks.
