Last days for oysters

The last fresh oysters of the 1979 season will be on sale in Christchurch in the next few days. Many city shops no longer sold oysters, and the rest would probably have run out of supplies by next Tuesday or Wednesday, said the president of the Christchurch Fish Retailers’ Association (Mr B. E. Mather) . Only a few boats of the Bluff oyster fleet have not filled their seasonal quota of 5000 sacks, and these have only two days of fishing left. Oyster fanciers might be hard put to find even frozen oysters during the off season this year. Mr Mather said the demand had been so steady this season, in spite of a 20c increase in price from last season, that retailers had been unable to put away any sizeable frozen stocks.
