Soccer tournament
A tota. of 21 teams will take pari in * national secondary schools’ soccer tournament, beginning on Monday, at Burnside High School. The teams will be split into three groups of five and one group of six with the top two teams in each group reaching the quarter-finals, from where semi-finalists And finalists will be found.
The tournament, sponsored by Umbro, is one of three which Will be held during the August school holiday period, the others being in Hamilton, Palmerston North and Wellington.
A strong contingent of teams frorti the Auckland region are
taking part ■ while 10 Christ* church teams are also included* The final will be held on Friday* August 24. The competing teams are, tuckland Grammar, Kelatoq oys’ High School, Avondale College, Mount Roskill, Mount Albert, Rosehill College, James Cook High School, Timaru Boys’ High School, Waitaki Boys’Higll School, Westlake High School* Southland Boys’ Higli School, Shirlev Boys’ High School, Lint wood High School, Middletoll Grange, Hornby High School* Cashmere High School, St Bede’s College, Xavier College, Burn* side High School, Hlllmortod High School and ChriatchurcS Bbys’ High School.
