John Wareham returns to hold seminars

John Wareham, the management consultant, has returned to New Zealand from New York to present a series of business seminars to executives in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

John Wareham founded Wareham Associates in Wellington in 1964, and by 1969 had established an office in Chicago. He moved to the New York office in 1977 to supervise an international organisation, which has offices in eight cities spanning three continents.

His seminars on the psychology of business management have attracted much interest in New York.

At a recent two-day seminar in the Waldorf Astoria hotel, executives prepared to pay $4OO each for entry had to be turned away because the seminar was sold out. Also the New York publisher, Albert A. Knopf, Jr., personally called at Mr Wareham’s office in New York to ask him to write a book on selecting and managing executives — a request which was accom-

panied by a substantial fivefigure advance. The book, titled “Secrets Of Corporate Headhunting,” is to be released in the United States next March. The two-day seminars, which Mr Wareham is holding in Australia and New Zealand, is entitled “Managing People For Profit — an intensive seminar for the

executive charged with the responsibility of achieving results through people.”

The idea behind the seminars is to provide insights into the psychology of individuals and organisations, and how to apply them. Also dealt with are anxiety, greed, and hostility in organisational behaviour. Topics included in the seminar are “How to motivate an organisation,” “Machiaveli in management,” “What employees want in a leader,” and “Emotional immaturity: the passive, dependent, submissive and self-centred employee.” Perhaps reflecting the relative scale of values in the world of business, New Zealand executives are being asked to pay $175 a person, $2O less than their Australian counterparts, and $225 less than the Americans. The two-day seminar in Christchurch is being held at Noah’s Hotel next Tuesday and Wednesday, beginning at 9 a.m. Included in the fee is luncheon each day, and training materials.
