Employment statistics compared
The South Island had marginally lower per capita unemployment at the end of April, according to a study made by Christchurch City Council planners. Over all, the South Island had 0,7 per cent per capita out of work, while the North Island had 0.8 per centAlthough the Christchurch employment district had the second highest number of registered unemployed in the country (3678, compared «Auckiand-Manukau’s , the highest per capita unemployment was in Whangarei, followed by New Plymouth, Tauranga, and Ro? torua. In the South Island, Blenheim and Christchurch had the highest percentage of registered unemployed, at 1 per cent. Dunedin and Invercargill had the lowest, at 0.3 per cent and 0.2 pep cent. The Whangarei district’s proportion of unemployed per capita was IJ6 per cent. Auckland had 0.8 per cent, and Wellington-Hutt had 0.6 per cent.
