New owner for Lady Belle
PA Auckland Lady Belle, a smart sprinter and member of a distinguished family, has changed hands for a six-figure sum. She has finished racing and probably will visit Zamazaan this spring. A six-year-old by Taipan IJ from Belle Time, Lady Belle has been bought by Mr D. G. McLaren, of Auckland, the managing director of a group of pharmaceutical companies. Lady Belle was bred and raced by Mr J. Sarten, also of Auckland, and trained for most of her career by J. A. Gibbs at Matamata. Lady Belle won 11 races, all handicaps, once carrying 60kg to victory at Te Rapa. Among her many minor placings was a third in the A.R.C. Railway Handicap under 56.5 kg Descendants of Belle Time, aged 26. and at stud again this vear, have won a total of 85 races. Lady Belle will Join a valuable array of broodmares at Mr McLaren’s Northfields stud at Whit ford. These include Spring Mist, another of Mr McLaren’s recent purchases.
