Court judge’s position filled

i PA Wellington: j Judge J. R. P. Horn has -been appointed the new Chief Judge of the Arbitration Court. He will succeed Chief Judge R. D. Jamieson, who will retire on September 1. Judge Horn was in private legal practice at New Plymouth for 20 years before he was appointed a Stipendiary Magistrate at Palmerston North in 1967. He 'was appointed chairman of the Licensing Control Commission in 1975, and a Judge ilof the Arbitration Court in 1977. jl He has also presided over

the Public Sector Tribunal, and will continue to do so as Chief Judge.

The Minister of Labour (Mr Bolger) said yesterday that he wanted to pay a “warm tribute” to Judge Jamieson, who had been Judge of the Industrial Court and later Chief Judge of the Arbitration Court.

Mr Bolger said that he was confident respect for the Court would continue, and that the Court would continue to “play its important role in the wage-fixing process, in the settlement of disputes, and its other powers of determination.”
