University Registrar
A new registrar has been appointed to the University of Canterbury. He is Mr W. Hansen, who will succeed Mr G. G. Turbott on his retirement at the end of this year.
Mr Hansen, aged 56, has worked at the university for 17 years as an accountant, deputy registrar, and, since 1976, as finance registrar. After serving with the R.N.Z.A.F. during World War 11, Mr Hansen joined the Inland Revenue Department in 1946 and was a tax inspector for eight years. He was involved with the development of financial recording systems and management techniques during the rapid growth of the university during the 19605. A married man with two sons, both engineering graduates, Mr Hansen was awarded a travelling fellowship by the Association of Commonwealth Universities. He inspected the financial administration of universities in Britain and Canada. Mr Turbott has been the university’s registrar for 23 years.
