Tongan hospital

PA Auckland Two Auckland Hospital administrators and a nursing sister will go to Tonga this month to help set up a new 28-bed hospital. The hospital, which replaces an old one in the isolated Ha’hpai group Of islands, was paid for under the New Zealand foreign aid programme. The Manager of Carrington Hospital (Mr N. Metge), the Auckland Hospital Board’s assistant supply manager (Mr E. Buchanan), and a nursing tutor, Sister Dawn Peterson, will stay in Tonga for several weeks to help train staff in the use of new equipment and to make sure the transfer of patients from the old hospital goes smoothly. The hospital has maternity, medical, and surgical facilities, as well as an infectious diseases unit.
