Courses resumed at Telford

Land settlement courses have been reintroduced at the Telford Farm Training Institute, near Balclutha. The courses, which last for an eight-week period spread over two years, are compulsory for those wishing to enter ballots for Lands and Survey farms who have neither a degree or diploma or the certificate of farm management. The courses were popular at Telford up until three years ago when dwindling numbers resulted

in them being stopped, and South Islanders wishing to participate were then sent to Flock House, near Bulls. Mr C. B. Mead, Telford’s principal, says that interest in the courses has increased and they will be available again this year. A wide range of other courses, covering many facets of pastoral and horticulture activities, fishing, mechanical skills, alternative farming, marketing, and bee-keeping, are also offered at Telford.
