Diesel warning
PA Wellington Farmers have been ask-: ed to go easy on diesel. “There is a shortage that does not allow too much in the way of growth, so please examine your use of diesel carefully,” the Minister of Energy (Mr Birch) told the annual conference of Federated Farmers. Allocations had been introduced to allow an equitable spread of diesel supplies. The only diesel use
which might not be essential to turn the wheels of industry and agriculture was home-heating. Mr Birch said he would be concerned if any farmers planned to increase considerably their diesel requirements. Farmers who needed diesel supplies above their allocations should discuss their needs with the Ministry of Energy. “Diesel will remain critically short as far ahead as we can see,” Mr Birch said.
