Rotorua to stop using fluoride
PA Rotorua The Rotorua District Council has voted to remove fluoride from its urban water supply. Before a sometimes vocal public gallery of about 40 persons the council this week voted 13-10 in favour, of a motion to “cease the fluoridation of the water supply from August 31.”
The $50,000 fluoride injection equipment and building will be maintain-- 1 pending any possible move by the Government to make fluoridation of water supplies compulsory. Fluoride has been in the Rotorua water since February of this year after a decision by the former Rotorua City Council in June of last year to proceed with the scheme. On the basis of an 8000signature petition, the new amalgamated district council decided to hold a referendum. Only 28 per cent of eligible voters turned outvoting was 5826 against and 1377 i.. fluoridation.
