Marathon star invited
Kevin Ryan, the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games marathon runner, has been invited to compete in a “mini marathon” during the Queenstown Winter Festival week from July 29 to August j.
The “mini marathon” will be contested on a 10km course starting at the Queenstown waterfront at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, August 4.
Persons interested in entering should send $2 to “Mini marathon,” P.O. Box 41, Queenstown. Plans are already underway to hold a fuil-scaie marathon next year.
A number of late additions have been made to the festival programme in evening entertainment. The Travelodge will host an Austrian food festival on the first two days (Sunday and Monday), a Swiss national dinner of Wednesday, August 1, and an American food festival on five other nights. Some pretty girl will be crowned “Sno Queen” at the Vacation Hotel on July 29; there will be a “tea party” at the Mountaineer every night from July 30; and a “drag ball” is scheduled for the Vacation on August 2. There is a beerfest at the Lakeland Inn on August 1.
