Colts team named
Canterbury has provided the captains of both the national under-age rugby teams this year. Gary Barkle is at present leading the Juniors on their internal tour and yesterday Neil Porter was named as the Cdlts captain.
John Collinson, like Porter, a New Zealand Colt last year, is the only other Canterbury player in the side, which was named after a trial at Nelson yesterday. The team is: Gary Muir (Poverty Bay), Wayne Hill (Auckland), Paul Reilly (Counties), Duncan McDonald (Otago), John Collinson (Canterbury), Michael Mills (Auckland), Dave Halligan (Otago), Barry Haig (Otago), Marty Torrance (Otago), Ivan Waterson (Auckland), Paul Hawkins (Wairarapa Bush), Geoff Hines (Waikato), Craig Fergusson (Waikato), Peter Johnstone (North Otago), Braidon Whitelack (Manawatu), Gary Whetton (Auckland), Kevin Boroevich (King Country), Neil Porter (Canterbury, captain), James Fortune (Southland), Hika Reid (Bay of Plenty), Kevin Ashbay (Counties). The programme is: July 21 Nelson Bays at Nelson, July 25, Buller at Westport, July 28 West Coast at Greymouth, August 1 MidCanterbury at Ashburton, August 4 North Otago at Oamaru.
