New Mirage five-door

A “stretched” version of the popular little Mitsubishi Mirage has just been launched on the New Zealand market. The new Mirage GLX

has five doors, two more than the original model, and is 105 mm longer, with an 80 mm longer wheelbase. This will provide more

room for luggage when the rear seat is being used, a welcome move, as this space is limited on the three-door. The Mirage’s stretching

has also improved legroom for rear-seat passengers, and this is enhanced by the front-wheel-drive configuration, which eliminates the under-floor driveshaft, found on rear-wheel-drive cars. Mitsubishi’s innovative “super-shift” 10-speed gearbox is retained for the five-door Mirage GLX, giving the driver the option of selecting “power” or “economy” ratios.

The GLX retains the three-door’s transverse, 40kw motor. The new version costs $8247, $352 more than the three-door.
