Fletcher plywood going to Hong Kong
Fletcher Wood Panels, Ltd, a subsidiary of Fletcher Holdings, Ltd, has won a $500,000 contract to export construction plywood to Hong Kong.
The order will be manufacturer at Fletcher’s plywood plant in Gladstone, near Greymouth, and will be supplied over a six month period. The manager of Fletcher
Wood Panels’ export department (Mr L. S. G. Pacey) described the contract as an exciting development for the company, the West Coast, and New Zealand. It was a big order by any standards, he said, and he predicts that it will pave the way for more contracts in neighbouring Asian countries, and further afield. The “Plyco” plywood is being sold to one customer, and will be used to make concrete formwork, and on other construction projects in Hong Kong. Il is being supplied in sheet sizes of 1800 x 900 mm
• instead of the standard 2400 i x 1200 mm sheets. The i smaller sheets were specified ■ because of their com- , patibility with Hong Kong i scaffolding systems and , building techniques. The ability of the Glads- ■ tone plant to adjust its pro- ■ duction line to manufacture ■ the smaller sheets, combined with the contract price, were ; major factors in Fletcher , Wood Panels’ success. ■ Mr Pacey said that the i order would not affect Flet- ; cher Wood Panels’ ability to meet local demands for industrial and construction i plywood.
