Crest Star big chance at Levin

Special correspondent Palmerston North Crest -Star looked very good in training at Awapuni yesterday morning and his gallop hinted at a big chance in the Levin Winter Cup tomorrow. Crest Star needs one scratching to get a start but with Baccalla unlikely to run, he should get into the field. Another northern visitor, Velocity, ran what looked a winning trial for the Koputaroa Handicap, while Glister also came through his task in great style. Working on the inside trail with the ground in remarkably good order for this time of the year Crest Star raced away from Stylish Sovereign at the end of 1400 m in Imin 365, the last 600 m in Imin 20s and the 600 m in 40s. This was a fine run by Crest Star, which was beaten by the ground at Trentham. He could be a big chance on better footing at Levin, where the ground rarely gets heavy. Velocity was going impressively in front of Zavynsky at the end of a dashing 1000 m in Imin 3.85, the last 600 m in 38.65. Velocity looks above average. He ran two bold races at Trentham and what beats him at Levin should win. Zavynsky is promising but has a tough assignment in the Ryder Stakes.

Amigacho is in the same race. He ran an easy 600 m , yesterday and looks to have done well since winning at Trentham. Westville was doing better than Garfield at the end of 1600 m in Imin 49s the last 600 m in 41s. Westville will have the services of David Peake in the Hatuma Handicap and must be one of the top chances. Kirmani shaded Solitaire a the end of 1200 m in Imin 20.5 s the last 600 m in 425. Kirmani could be an im--1 ’over in the Levin Handic.p. Class Distinction and Bahmaid ran 1000 m in Imin 11.55. the last 600 m in 435. They are northern visitors engaged at Levin. Lucky Omen ran 600 m in 38.4 s and could be a prospect at Levin. She found'the ground too tough for her at Trentham. ABLE NOTE IMPROVING Able Note shaded Surrey Park at the end of 1200 m in Imin 19s, the last 600 m. in 40.45. Able Note is improving and could have a chance at Levin. Especially if there is any rain. Fidget made good time sc’o over 1000 m in Imin 5.55, the last 600 m in 39s and River Mellay left 1000 m behind in Imin 8.5 s the last 600 m in 40.55. She has improved lately and might go well at Levin. Finlay ran an easy 600 m

in 42s and a stablemate, Royonah, covered 800 m in 55.65, the last 600 m in 41,65. Royonah has run a couple of good races and could be prominent at Levin.

Memories ran , from the 600 m in 41s and Gold Leaf completed 800 m. in 53.45, the last 600 m in 40s, Witchety was timed over 1400 m in Imin 38.45. The last 600 m in 42s and Koiro Kurt and Piako ran 1600 m in Imin 51s the last 600 m in 41.55.

Battle Treaty and Taiphilae ran from the 1200 m in Imin 20s the last 600 m in 40.85, with both working strongly at the finish.

Miss Supreme covered 1600 m in Imin 535, the last 600 m in 41s. She shows promise as a hurdler and might go a good race at Levin.

On the plough Glister was too good for Norma’s Lad at ths end of 1200 m in Imin 188 the last 600 m in 37.65. Glister revelled in bis work and it was a good trial for the Levin Winter Cup. Tisham and Emperator ran 1400 m in Imin 395, the last 600 m in 42.45. Tisham did not like the Trentham course. He could do better in the Les Ling Memorial Steeplechase at Levin.
