Vietnamese refugees
Sir, — E. Martin (July 12) and others imply that I am totally excusing the Vietnamese Government for the flood of refugees from Vietnam. This is not the case. I am saying that not all the blame can be laid at their door any more than all the blame for 40,000 New Zealanders leaving New Zealand can be laid at dur Government’s door. Is E. Martin really suggesting it is un-
Christian and unloving to challenge distortion? — Yours, etc., The Rev. BRIAN TURNER July 12, 1979.
Sir, — I have followed with interest all the comments about the refugees. It is my contention that the Vietnamese “boat people” should be granted political asylum by their “colonial cronies,” with France and the United States. But for some of your correspondents to expect Russia to accept these stateless people is preposterous and is comparable with asking the Jewish community to contribute towards a fund to rehabilitate former Nazi war criminals. — Yours, etc., J. P. STUART. July 12, 1979.
