Caversham and Rangers kept up strong challenges for the Midlands Coachlines Soccer League title with good wins on Saturday. Caversham kept two points ahead of Rangers with a 4-0 win over Technical of Dunedin. Jack

Schoulten scored three times and Barry White once. Schoulten’: hat-trick kept him among the leading goal-scorers in the league this season. Rangers beat Papanui W.M.C., 4-1, at Burnside Park with twe of Rangers’ goals coming off Papanui defenders. Both resulted from shots at goal by the Rangers striker, Neil Francis, and both took deflections into the goal.
The Rangers captain. John Souter, also acting as coach in the absence of lan Marshall, who is in hospital, scored the third goal from the penalty spot and Murray Smith added the fourth near the end. A defensive error allowed Mark Lynn to score Papanui’s only goal late in the second half. Both Caversham and Rangers have played more games than Wooiston W.M.C., which did not pray on .Saturday, and are five and three points clear of Wooiston respectively. In the only other match played an Saturday, Green Island had ,ts fourth win of the competition when it beat Shamrock, 3-1, in Dunedin. Kevin Amey scored, twice and Steve Haggerty once ior Green Island with Derrick Neal scoring Shamrock’s goal. MIDLANDS LEAGUE
