Walker wins in Budapest

NZPA London New Zealand’s John Walker, who is preparing for a clash with Tanzanian Filbert Bayi, the British star Steve Ovett, Henry Rono of Kenya, and the new 800 m world record holder Sebastian Coe, in the Dubai Golden Mile in Oslo next Tuesday, has had a smart 1500 m win in Budapest, Walker won in the relatively slow time of 3:39.56 clocking 26s in the final 200 m, and will now tackle a speed-building 800 m in London at the week-end before Oslo. Rod Dixon also had a good run at Budapest, finishing second behind Fedotkin of the Soviet Union in a 5000 metres event.

Dixon clocked 13:19.2, and coming soon after his 13:26,0 in Gateshead on Sunday plus a day of travelling, he was well satisfied. The Russian ran 13:17.7.
