Nowhere man

WINGS “Back To The Egg” (EMI PCTC 257): My friends at EMI asked me to give this album back if I did not like it. Well, 1 have reviewed three McCartney albums now, and while I don’t mind “Back To The Egg,” it is really just another McCartney album, still nothing as extraordinary or talented as “Band On The Run.” I mean. Paulie is an excellent craftsman and musician. Like Abba, he has the ability to turn in some really catchy songs, and that, my friends, is a compliment. For instance, “Old Siam,

Sir” is almost a replay of “Admiral Halsey,” which will get the old DJ’s working, while others such as “Rockestra Theme” and “So Glad To See You Here” feature a list of guest musicians which should not be sneezed at. Over-all, “Back To The Egg” is pleasant and harmless, a bit like having a pet triffid rather than the hostile variety. One overseas reviewer suggested that McCartney should go solo — at least he should really find some decent musicians who can temper his one-man-band approach to rock Muzak.
