‘Hijack bid’ fails
Passengers and crew have overpowered a man who attempted to hijack their jetliner to Cuba and bound him with the captain’s tie and a headset cord until landing in Miami, a spokesman for Eastern Airlines has said. No-one was injured aboard the Tristar jumbo jet, which carried 293 passengers and 13 crewmembers from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Miami. The spokesman said the suspect, who was charged with air piracy, had “just, jumped up and shouted ‘Viva Castro, Viva Cuba’.” He said the man was unarmed and carried a bottle of rum.—Miami.
