Two cut free after crash
Firemen were called in to free two persons after a spectacular head-on collision between two cars on the West Coast Road, near Paparua Prison, late last evening. Wreckage from the cars was spread 50 metres along the road after the accident, said a St John Ambulance spokesman. Firemen used “jaws of life” to free a man suffering from head injuries and a woman suffering from leg injuries from the cars. “It was unbelievable that no-one was killed,” 'he spokesman said. Two St John ambifiances and two fire engines attended the accident.
The injured man and woman were admitted to Christchurch Hospital. Their names and condition were not available late last evening.
The other persons in the accident escaped without serious injury.
