Wharf repairs progressing
Decking replacement and repair work on the No. 2 dry bulk cargo wharf at Lyttelton will cease temporarily in about three months after the completion of access for heavy vehicles. The Lyttelton Harbour Board's chief engineer (Mr J. B. Bushel!' said it was planned to do repair work on No. 3 wharf before returning to No. 2. Lloyd's surveyors from Lyttelton will classify a repeat order of containers for the West [German shipping group. Ham-burg-Sud. gained by the Dunedin firm of George and Ashton. 'Ltd. I Hamburg-Sud is the parent company of Columbus Line and the 51.5 million contract for porthole refrigerated containers is) due for completion next month. The repeat order will make a total of 450 containers built for the company in six months. They will be used on Columbus Line services between New Zealand and North America, Europe and the Caribbean The Dunedin company started container production less than three years ago and has now built more than 2000 insulated units to the stringent specifications of the International Standards Organisation. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of New Zealand Fibre Glass. Ltd. a
