Half-fare seats are now available on United Kingdom flights for bulky or delicate items, like musical instruments, paintings, and fragile scientific equipment. Routes to and from Northern Ireland are exempt from this facility for “tools of the trade” considered too valuable or
fragile to travel in the aircraft’s hold. If the new service is successful, it could be extended to include international services. s;: * * ' Singapore Airlines has ordered a computer representation of Auckland
International Airport for use in flight simulator training of its DCIO pilots. The new, advanced, visual system will give a realistic view of the airport under various conditions — day, dusk, or night. Special techniques will simulate the movement of vehicles and adverse weather conditions including lightning and rain. Auckland is among 10 airports for which Singapore Airlines has ordered data base models worth SIOM. The others are Jakarta, Bangkok, Manila, Colombo, Madras. Taipei, Osaka, Hong Kong, and Seoul.
